CAS were proud to sponsor one of our consultants to run the grueling Marathon des Sables as part of our ongoing Corporate and Social Responsibility commitments.
Well done Mike on a wonderful achievement and the sponsorship you raised for Yorkhill Children’s Hospital in Glasgow.
“I did it! Last week I completed the Marathon des Sables! In spite of weather, damaged feet, illness going round camp and the longest and toughest stage they’ve ever had, I crossed the finish line!
Thanks to everyone who sponsored me and also emailed me in the desert. My feet have nearly returned to their normal size, the blisters are healing nicely and I raised over £3,000.”

The race has its roots in the French concert promoter, Patrick Bauer’s 200-mile hike across the Sahara Desert in 1984. Determined to encourage others to experience a similar achievement, he organised the first Marathon de Sables in 1986.
You can read more about the history of the race on the official site.
“As this is something out of the ordinary and a bit ‘different’, I want to take the opportunity to try and raise some money for a charity which has some special significance to me. I’ve chosen to run for Yorkhill Children’s Hospital in Glasgow who cared for my nephew and ultimately saved him after he was born with a life-threatening illness. Each year over 150,000 children from all over Scotland need to go to Yorkhill for care and attention as they are able to provide specialist services, staff and equipment which other NHS hospitals can’t.”
